Thy Word Have I Hid In My Heart....

"I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. That's right. No other single discipline is more useful and rewarding than this. No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividend! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your counseling will be in demand. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified. "

Charles Swindoll
from Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life.

I have been strongly challenged by these words today, and am pledging to myself to do better in this area. Memorization has always come fairly easily for me, so I have no excuse to offer for my lack of endeavor in my adult years.

Do any of you have secrets for memorizing, or any specific blessings you've received for the discipline of doing so?

Hey..reading this on a "nice" Hampton computer...sooo realizing how much we must get a new one...everything looks so much better on this one...can't believe how good! Everybody's blogs look so beautiful!!

So appreciate this truth...need work here myself...I will say that what I've memorized definately has been imprinted into my mind, belief system, maybe even my DNA!! Surprising what can come to mind just when you need it! So much a source of life!

I'm fired up from reading Dennis Kinlaw in the car today (beware in future posts!!:) and so believe that even when we can't adequetly explain in, the wisdom of Scripture and sound theology makes such a difference in how we see ourselves..how we see others...how we serve God!! Sending happy, peaceful hugs your way from a Hampton in TX!! Love Ya!

Bless your heart, Kimberly! That is so sad that you feel you're just seeing all our blogs! Really funny! I hope you get a new computer soon!

Sending happy, peaceful hugs right back at ya...

p.s. YAY....for Hampton Inns! We lived in our local Hampton Inn for 5 weeks last fall when we had water damamge to our home, and had our floors replaced. We were so glad to get home, but so glad we had such a nice "home away from home" too. Those heavenly beds are heavenly. I guess I should also say YAY for Homeowner's Insurance who picked up the whole tab!

Thanks for a good reminder! We've begun some Bible memorization with the children, and it's amazing how quickly little ones can memorize! Good reminder for me to keep it up, especially at this period in our lives. God bless ya, friend!

I LOVE this quote! May I steal it, please?

Our favorite memorization stuff:

For the kids: Abeka.com memorization cards (ages 2-5). Cheap - 2.25

A scripture passage memorized by the family together around the dinner table each day. (currrently-Psalm 15 - POWERFUL scripture!)

Charlotte Mason's Scripture memorization system. It's awesome! I haven't gotten mine together yet, but am hoping to get it organized this week. (simplycharlottemason.com - click on "Scripture Memory System".) I also love her suggested memorization lists.

And on my wish list: Beth Moore's "Praying God's Word Scripture Resource." If you like the card system, this does all the prep work for you!
